What is HomeLink®?

2020 Chevrolet Trax
If you’ve recently secured the keys to a new Chevy for your East Boston commute, you’ve likely seen the technology called Chevy HomeLink®. What is HomeLink® in a car?” HomeLink®  is a wireless control system that’s integrated into your Chevy car, truck, or SUV. Designed for your convenience, this system allows you to easily:

  • Open/close garage doors or automatic security gates
  • Turn on/turn off home security systems
  • Turn on/off home interior & exterior lights, appliances, and other household electronics

Keep reading to learn more about HomeLink®, how it works, and how to program it with Pride Chevrolet, Inc..

What Are the Benefits of Chevy HomeLink®?

Whether you drive a Chevrolet Malibu, Silverado, Traverse, or another Chevy vehicle, you’ll enjoy the following benefits, courtesy of HomeLink®:

  • Easy to Use: You can connect your vehicle to your home by simply pressing a few buttons.
  • Flexibility: HomeLink® can be used with a wide variety of garage door openers, security gates, and other radio-frequency (RF) controlled devices.
  • Link 1-3 Devices: HomeLink® is seamlessly integrated into the cabin of your car and can control up to three devices.
  • Safety & Security: If your garage door has been left open, HomeLink® will sense this and notify you. You can also use HomeLink® apps to check in on other in-home appliances and devices, such as the security system and lights.

What’s more, because HomeLink® is powered by the electrical system in your Chevy, you don’t have to worry about changing a battery for added convenience.

How to Program HomeLink®

You might be wondering how to program HomeLink®. It’s quick and easy! Follow the steps below to program the system:

  1. HomeLink® includes three buttons and is usually situated on the car’s ceiling above the center console. Press and hold down the first and third buttons until the interior lights of your car start flashing. Usually, this takes about 20 seconds. Pressing the first and third buttons is the master reset, so you don’t need to do this when you add other devices.
  2. After the ceiling lights start flashing, press and hold the button you want to program while also holding the open/close button on your garage door opener. The lights should flash slowly at first, and then more rapidly. This indicates that programming is complete.
  3. Step into your garage and press the “learn” button on the garage door opener.
  4. Step back inside your vehicle and press the programmed button on your car — hold for no less than two seconds. The lights on your garage door opener may begin to flash, letting you know that it’s connecting to HomeLink®.
